How long have you been a funeral arranger?
I have been a funeral arranger since 2004, and Location Manager at Simplicity Funerals since 2017.
What do you like about being a funeral arranger?
It is such an honour to get to know families and about their loved one who has passed away. It is a very personal time for families, and I am always touched by how families welcome us into their homes and lives at often a very difficult time in their lives.
Do you speak any other languages?
No. But I have taken a basic course in Auslan (sign Language), and would like to persue that further.
What do you like about your local area?
Launceston and surrounds is such a beautiful place. Everything is nice and close. I grew up in a very small town (Fingal), so Launceston is the perfect size for me.
What makes your brand special?
Between the wonderful team here, we have over 66 years of funeral experience. That is a lot of care given to our community. We are also very modern and very open to all types of farwells.
What inspired you to work in funeral planning?
That is hard to answer. According to my parents, I used to say as a kid, "I am going to be an undertaker when I grow up.
What do you value most about being part of Simplicity Funerals?
Having a national connection so wherever someone is from, we can support them locally and Australia wide.
How do you and your team support families at such an important time?
By being very experienced in our local area. We are patient and friendly and will help to give our families the farwell they want for their loved one.
What gives you strength in this work?
The fact that our families need us at such a difficult time in their lives.
What do you enjoy in your spare time?
Reading, walking with no phone or AirPods so I can say hello to people and pat dogs. Drinking a nice drop of Tasmanian sparkling wine.
What do you love about the community your funeral home is in?
The Launceston and surrounding areas are just like a big family. We often know family members we are looking after, and many of the mourners attending the funeral service.
What’s the most remarkable funeral you’ve ever arranged?
All funerals have their own remarkable qualities. I guess state funerals are always memoriable due to the government protocols. Also, we do the funerals for our belvoed Carmelite nuns.
What's one thing people don't know about you?
That I used to have my private pilot's licence - which I will do again sometime soon.
