How long have you been a funeral arranger?
A little over seven years.
What do you like about being a funeral arranger?
A funeral is something that happens once, so it needs to be as close to perfect as possible. I get a lot of job satisfaction out of a family expressing that they feel as though you’ve done this and you’ve helped make a hard time easier for them.
Do you speak any other languages?
I’m slowly learning bits and pieces of Italian, as my partner is Italian.
What do you like about your local area?
I like living 12 minutes from work/the CBD but being surrounded by paddocks and bushland.
What makes your brand special?
Our team. We offer a fully bespoke service at a very high standard while doing our best to make the process as simple as possible. When choosing a funeral home, make your decision based on the people responsible for making the funeral happen, more so than the venue it will be held in. We encourage you to give us a call, come in for a chat and a coffee, ask some questions and get to know us.
What inspired you to work in funeral planning?
My Dad, Simon has worked in the industry for over 30 years, so I’ve been exposed to it for almost my entire life.
What do you value most about being part of Simplicity Funerals?
I like educating families on everything we can offer and allowing them to make informed decisions regarding planning the most fitting funeral for their loved one. It’s nice to be a part of a trusted nationwide brand that upholds very high standards of funeral care.
How do you and your team support families at such an important time?
We have a small, but very experienced team who work extremely well together to create very polished and meaningful funerals.
What gives you strength in this work?
Knowing you’re responsible for something so important. It brings an element of pressure but in turn brings a lot of motivation to do well.
What do you enjoy in your spare time?
I enjoy spending time with my partner, Jess, exploring different parts of Tasmania, whether that be in nature or new places to eat and drink. I also enjoy any form of cycling, including road, mountain biking or gravel. Tasmania is the perfect place for that.
What do you love about the community your funeral home is in?
Launceston is a small place where everyone knows everyone. It’s nice to see people you’ve worked with in the street from time to time and know you’ve helped them in some way.
What’s the most remarkable funeral you’ve ever arranged?
A remarkable one I remember, I did not arrange but assisted on where the deceased’s coffin arrived at the cemetery strapped (very securely) to the side of a helicopter.
My most memorable, however was not due to extravagance. This was a 9-month-old baby boy. There was no funeral service. His Mum simply sat quietly with him in our chapel. I think about them weekly.
What's one thing people don't know about you?
I have represented Australia in Orienteering and Mountain Running.
