What do you like about being a funeral arranger?
We often hear the statement: “I don’t know how you do your job”. I can answer that very simply. People are going through one of the worst times of their lives. If you can help make things just a little bit easier, relieve their fears and concerns and give their loved one a beautiful farewell, you go home at the end of the day feeling like you’ve made a difference. It’s a job that has meaning. I look after people the way I would like to be looked after if I was in their place.
What makes your brand special?
A lot of people will call Simplicity Funerals and tell us Dad or Mum, or granddad was a simple person and just wanted a simple funeral. I think our strength is finding out what simple means for each family. And often the meanings are very different! We are here to help and guide our families through the funeral process; and arrange a service that is all about them and their loved one. I always say there is no right or wrong, it is your day, we’re just here to make it happen.
What’s the most remarkable funeral you’ve ever arranged?
One of the more memorable funerals I arranged was for a car enthusiast. The hearse drove to the family home where all the members of his car club had assembled in their beautifully restored hot rods and classic cars. The hearse then drove all the way to the funeral followed by a fantastic entourage of these vehicles, escorting their much- loved mate on his final journey.
